THE funeral of Royal British Legion stalwart Ted Griffiths will take place next week at York Minster.
The service will be held at 1.30pm on Wednesday, followed by a private family cremation.
Members of the Royal British Legion will take their standards to the cathedral to form a guard of honour at the South door, and mourners will be asked to make donations to the Legion's Poppy Appeal in lieu of flowers.
Mr Griffiths, of Heworth, was dubbed Mr Poppy because of his unstinting voluntary work for the annual appeal.
He died suddenly last week aged 95, just a day after his latest Festival of Remembrance at York Barbican had raised thousands of pounds more for the fund.
