IT WAS supposed to be a fun Saturday morning with the children. But it turned into something quite different. Mum of four Caroline Kimberling took two of her boys to see a film at Vue Cinema.
She was chatting away during the trailers – then she went suddenly quiet. Zach, 10, tried nudging her. When he got no response, he realised something was wrong – and ran for help.
It was lucky he did. Caroline had suffered a heart attack. A nurse and a physiotherapist watching the film rushed to her aid.
Then Wesley Hall, a Vue staff member with First Aid training, carried out resuscitation until paramedics arrived.
Today, after two weeks in hospital, Caroline is back home and doing well.
“It seems a miracle,” she said.
Perhaps – but it’s a miracle with a very human face.
If Zach hadn’t been so quick-thinking, if Wesley hadn’t trained in First Aid, if the paramedics at the scene or the doctors and nurses at York Hospital had been less on the ball, the outcome could have been very different.
Well done to all.
