A CHURCH club in Acomb is aiming to help residents improve their employability in tough economic times.
CAP Job Club, run by Gateway Church in Acomb, is a service devised by charity Christians Against Poverty which trains churches to help equip people with the skills to find employment. This service is due to launch in Tang Hall.
An attendee in Acomb said: “It is fantastic. It has given me new skills and confidence and now I have a job.
“I’d like to thank Gateway Church for putting this on and say to anyone else, go to Job Clubs.”
CAP Job Clubs is a weekly drop-in group that combines one-to-one consultations, group support and practical sessions that cover topics such as identifying strengths, CV writing and interview techniques.
The CAP Job Club manager Tess Sherratt said: “The Job Club is a great way for people to build their confidence and meet other people struggling with unemployment, we have really enjoyed having guest speakers in from Aviva and CVS to name but a few.
“We’re glad to say we’ll be repeating the eight week practical course from January 9, 2015, in the mean time, call in to our HOPE social club at Gateway Church on a Tuesday afternoon to meet the Job Club team and register for the next course.”
