A SURE way of realising that one is getting old is to see an article about oneself in Carol Stephenson's The Way We Were column.
The article about the planned closure of the Castle Howard Costume Galleries and its dispersal (The Press, October 16) brought back many memories.
There are hardly any people who call me Richard Robson any more, but the influence of that remarkable collection, the largest private collection of original period costume in Europe is still shown by its then young staff now caring for museum collections and the continuing legacy of our educational work.
Its exhibitions, which were shown not only at Castle Howard, but worldwide, are still remembered and missed.
Occasionally, I receive enquiries regarding the collection, but following the galleries' closure in 1993, my life as as a hieromonk of the Orthodox Church (together with a change of name) brings a different, but just as rewarding a life.
