THE Independent Living Scheme in York is celebrating a successful 20 years.
Since 1994 the scheme has supported more than 800 disabled people to live more independently and take control of their support.
The scheme, originally known as The Personal Assistance Scheme, provides support and information to disabled people receiving a direct payment /personal budget to help fund their care.
Sarah Hendry, Independent Living Scheme manager, said: “For 20 years we have been working with people to ensure they have the right assistance and support to participate in society and live an ordinary life. And we’ll continue to do this until we’re no longer needed.”
