THE family of 21-year-old Sam Wilson, who died following a violent disturbance in York, have thanked everyone who has supported them.

Sam, from Haxby, was hit by a taxi shortly after the incident in Haxby Road, near the Nuffield Hospital, in the early hours of Saturday morning. He died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.

Sam’s mother and father, speaking on behalf of the family, said: "We would like to thank all of those people who have offered us support and kind words of comfort at this very difficult time. We ask that we are now left to grieve in private, as we come to terms with our loss."

Three men have been charged with manslaughter in connection with Sam's death, and yesterday, Robbie McHale, 19, from Fifth Avenue, appeared before Leeds Crown Court to apply for bail, following a hearing at York Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear before the court on October 27.

Linden Lee Smith, 20, of Kirkham Avenue, Bell Farm, appeared before York Magistrates Court on Monday charged with the manslaughter of Mr Wilson. He was granted conditional bail.

Jack Alexander, of Fox Covert, Huntington, appeared before magistrates in York on Wednesday and was also remanded in custody until October 27.
