1) ACOMB Parish Church is running its annual Autumn Fayre at Acomb Parish Hall in Front Street this Saturday. The event will run from 10am to 1pm and will include stalls, games and refreshments.


2) THIEVES stole an undisclosed amount of scrap metal from a farm yard in Camblesforth between October 4 and October 12. Anyone with information or who has been offered the metal for sale should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101.


3) ACOMB Afternoon Townswomen’s Guild is having a meeting on Tuesday, October 21 at 2pm at the Friends Meeting House, The Green, Acomb. There will be a talk by Richard Green and Helen Hoult about Holgate Windmill.


4) THE next meeting of Nether Poppleton Parish Council will be held at the Poppleton Centre, Main Street, Upper Poppleton, at 7pm, on Monday, October 20.


5) NOMINATIONS are open for a competition to celebrate community groups across the country.

Community projects in the York area can compete for a makeover for their venue as part of the Johnstone’s Paint Community Spirit campaign, with all 48 clubs invited to put forward nominations for the prize.

Groups in York can put forward nominations at johnstonestrade.com/communityspirit and York City FC will have final say on which project will go through to the next stage, before a public vote to decide the overall winner.

Ben Wilde, from Johnstone’s Paint, said: “We have no restrictions on the nominations we are looking for. The only provison must be that the facility or group benefits the community.”

Nominations must be in by Friday, November 21.


6) DANCING In The Street will celebrate Tamla Motown’s greatest hits at the Grand Opera House, York, tomorrow, at 7.30pm.

7) THE organisers of a new-look fundraising bonfire night event are urging residents from a wide area to show their support for a hospice charity.

Thirsk Rotary Club, which is set to double the length of its annual fireworks display, alongside an evening of family entertainment at Thirsk Racecourse on Saturday, November 1, said it will donate proceeds from the event to Herriot Hospice Homecare.


8) A NEW book by award-winning food and drink writer, Leigh Linley, celebrates the ‘fantastic’ range of bottled beers from Yorkshire’s breweries.

9) YORK ice-cream maker Yorvale is celebrating a successful first year since it entered in to a partnership with the first direct arena in Leeds.

The Acaster Malbis-based firm signed a three-year deal after the opening of the arena in July last year and since then has also begun selling its Yoryog frozen yoghurt too.

Lesley Buxton of Yorvale said: “We’re very proud of the fact that the catering team recognises that a local, family farm producer of ice cream is able to provide a quality product and service that exceeds their expectations.”
