AN ARMY captain from Tadcaster who survived a Taliban bullet has been riding the waves of California to help his rehabilitation.
David Wiseman is part of a group of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women which, supported by Help for Heroes, is on the 10th annual Op Surf in the USA.
The week-long trip is an adaptive surf program, to help participants overcome perceived limitations of their physical and psychological disabilities. The expedition forms part of Help for Heroes’ extensive Sports Recovery programme, and uses surfing as a rehabilitation and recovery activity that also integrates UK and US service personnel.
David Wiseman was deployed to Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment in 2009, and sustained a chest gunshot wound in a firefight with the Taliban.
