SAFETY campaigners are hoping stickers on the backs of lorries will cut the number of cyclists injured in road collisions.
Harrogate District Community Safety Partnership is sending stickers saying “Stay Back - Don’t Undertake” to haulage firms in its area and has already put them on the district council’s refuse lorries. All drivers including lorry drivers have a duty of care to check their mirrors before turning across a cyclist’s path, but more and more cyclists are being injured by lorries whose drivers don’t spot them in their mirrors.
Cllr Margaret Atkinson hopes the stickers will remind cyclists of the dangers of undertaking large vehicles and warn them to stay back.
