DAVID Rhodes of Bishopthorpe (Letters, September 19) claims that an obvious site for affordable housing is the old Park & Ride next to Tesco in Dringhouses. I disagree.
The roads around the Tesco roundabout are jammed and the traffic flow system at the new Park & Ride has made it worse than before. The council has identified the area in the new draft Local Plan as a pollution black spot.
Multi-storey affordable housing that is out of character with the surrounding area already dominates from the neighbouring Revival site. That affordable housing was put up with a lack of planned car parking spaces that has resulted in local streets being clogged with parked cars. A busy Tesco operates 24 hours a day and the rail line runs alongside as do the Park & Ride buses.
It is the worst place to build more houses. We need more houses but should build them in decent areas and not condemn those who need affordable housing to live on the worst sites.
