THE bride made a splash that the guests at her wedding will never forget when she took to the water at the end of her ceremony in a pretty unusual vehicle.

PA Gabriella Grey, 25, of Severus Avenue, Acomb, tied the knot with trainee teacher Thomas Evans, 29, of Ringwood, Hampshire, at York Register Office on Saturday.

Then the happy couple headed off to Blue Bridge at the junction of York's two rivers to take their first trip together as husband and wife in an amphicar - an amphibious car - so they could get to the wedding reception in a marquee downstream at Acaster Malbis.

Gabriella's stepfather Richard Spencer said: "They absolutely loved it. It was amazing, it was absolutely brilliant. The guests were surprised."

The amphicar was a German-made 1960s classic, owned by family friend Nick Frost of Acaster Malbis, who offered its services as an unique way for bride and bridegroom to travel.

They had feared the rain would mean they would have to travel by more conventional means but the rain stopped just as they got to the bridge.
