RESIDENTS of an East Yorkshire chalet park have lost their bid to live in their homes all year round.

A planning inspector has upheld an earlier decision, by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, to refuse retrospective planning permission for the change of use of 73 existing park homes for permanent homes at Lakeminster Park, near Beverley, and to uphold the planning enforcement notices.

The council’s head of planning Pete Ashcroft said: “We welcome the planning inspector’s decision in relation to Lakeminster Park and that the action taken by the council was correct.

“We understand the concerns of the park’s residents and, if they have not yet done so, we would strongly advise them to seek independent legal advice on this decision and what options are now open to them.

“The council will now analyse the decision in full before considering whether to comment further.”

The government inspector Diane Lewis said the park’s location was in fundamental conflict with planning policies.

She said the council’s decision to refuse planning permission “necessary and proportionate in the public interest” and did not harm the residents’ human rights.

People at the park now have 18 months to comply with the planning enforcement notices.
