FOR once I completely agree with ex-councillor Sue Galloway (Letters, August 5 – “Learn from Whitby”) when she points out issues in York with weed growth and lack of clean streets.
However, given that these phenomena are a direct consequence of her Tory/Lib Dem Government’s cuts to the funding of City of York Council – more than £70m over the five-year life of the Government – can I suggest she raises her concerns with her Lib Dem, chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, and her Lib Dem party leader, Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg?
After all, the Lib Dems are complicit in her Government’s savage cuts to public services that are causing so much misery to many of the most vulnerable in our communities, and to many loyal and hard-working public servants, some of whom are working hard to keep York as tidy as possible, with the reduced resources available.
Cllr Sandy Fraser (Labour), Micklegate ward, Millfield Road, York.
