SPORTS for people with disabilities were showcased when a Disability Sports Day was held at the Energise leisure centre in York.
Sports on offer included dance, gym, football, multisports and general swimming and there were guest appearances from Alan Rayment, the para triathlete, and York para climber Sianagh Gallagher.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “This day is a really popular annual event where residents can try lots of different sports in one go and last year we welcomed approximately 120 residents to the day. It is a great opportunity to find out more about the different inclusive activities across the city and everyone is welcome regardless of age, ability and previous sporting experience.”
Celebrating Ability Week, which ended yesterday, provided a broad range of taster events and workshops at a number of accessible locations across the city.
Its aim was to raise awareness and understanding about disability and gives everyone a chance to get involved by providing training workshops in disability awareness for anyone who works with, or is interested in working with, disabled people.
