A QUEEN MARGARET’S old girl who became a star of the legal profession has been appointed one of the country’s top judges.
Mrs Justice Eleanor King, who attended the Escrick school as Eleanor Hamilton from 1966 to 1973, will sit on the Court of Appeal from autumn after making a name for herself as a High Court judge in the Family Division.
After graduating Hull University, she was called to the Bar in 1979 before becoming a Queen’s Counsel and member of the judiciary. Until recently Chairman of Governors at Queen Margaret’s, she is a Member of the Chapter of the University of York and a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
The mother of four daughters, all of whom attended Queen Margaret’s, she has said her links with the school remain an important part of her life.
