THE proposal to provide a link road from Haxby Road to Wigginton Road through the Nestlé-Rowntree site, but not for cars, is typical planning rubbish (A blueprint for Nestlé, The Press, January 18).

The route for pedestrians and cyclists already exists: any of the connecting streets, ie Rose Street or the former railway cycle track, and I have yet to see a bus route from Haxby Road to Wigginton Road or vice versa.

The council should have left the two existing streets as one-way, or created a new road on the old railway taking traffic away from a very polluted corner.
