MORE than 100 local residents have attended a planning surgery about the redevelopment of the former Terry's chocolate factory site.

Now developer Grantside is set to host one more such event on Tuesday, from 3.30pm.

The surgeries, which are held in the confectionery firm's former offices in Bishopthorpe Road, York, ask people for their views on a major planning application lodged with City of York Council last autumn.

The scheme involves 296,040sq ft of commercial office space, including a creative technology centre for Science City York, which in total will create 2,500 jobs.

Also proposed are a luxury hotel with facilities including spa, pool and health facilities, a business based 96-bedroom hotel, 389 residential units, including townhouses, studios, live/work units and apartments, a 110-bed assisted living facility for over-55s, a 60-bed care home and 28,000sq ft of community facilities, including a doctors/dentist surgery, small convenience store, nursery/crèche and children's gym and play centre.

The developers also want permission for a gallery, museum, brasserie, café bar, coffee shop, cycle shop and restaurant, a new semi-formal public park and plaza, and a dedicated cycleway.

Five listed landmark buildings will be retained and refurbished for conversion into uses such as the high quality hotel, while the clock tower could become a gallery, restaurant or cycle shop and creative studio space.

Grantside director Steve Davis said he had been delighted with the response to the consultation. "We are keen that as many residents as possible have a chance to view and discuss the application with our regeneration team."
