TODAY I learned about the passing of a much loved teacher of mine, Steve Kenwright.
Via the many comments shared on a post unconnected to my own Facebook, it became apparent that he had passed away.
Being out of the country, I did not hear about his funeral and was unable to pay my respects. But I feel it is still so important people hear about the great effect this man had on my education and young life, as well as the lives of my primary school friends.
Steve Kenwright (or Mr K, as we would call him) was the most passionate and talented teacher I met throughout my educational career.
Although I have made some wonderful connections with tutors and lecturers all the way through to my Masters Degree, it was my primary school teacher who has had the greatest influence.
Mr K was full of energy for all the subjects he taught, and although his degree may have been in the sciences he was most talented and passionate about music.
My own passion for music came from his enthusiasm and ability to get primary school kids excited about syncopation and photosynthesis equally.
The optimism and hard work that I learned from Mr K has helped me get where I am today and I will be forever grateful.
Although his passing is a truly great loss, the influence he had on his pupils will remain with us.
