NEWS a York village Post Office has been saved has been welcomed by the MP and ward councillors.
York Outer MP Julian Sturdy and Bishopthorpe councillor John Galvin campaigned alongside the parish council and community to save Bishopthorpe’s Post Office, which could have been withdrawn if no alternative provider been found.
After months of uncertainty over the future of the Post Office, a six-week public consultation began this week on a plan to move the Post Office into Maynews’ on Sim Balk Lane.
The relocation – likely to take place in September and October – will also see some modernisations and longer opening hours. Cllr Galvin and Mr Sturdy said they were delighted with the news. Mr Sturdy added: “They are as valuable to our rural communities as village shops and the local pubs.”
