Langwith Lakes underlined its status as one of the North's premier angling venues with a huge turnout of 83 on Sunday.

This saw all four lakes pressed into service, and all four featured in the frame.

Andy Simpson scored a runaway win with 69lb 2oz after a maggot and pellet attack at 29 on Kevin's Lake. Working at 13m tight to the island, he found carp in the 2lb-3lb bracket coming regularly.

It turned into a three-man scrum for second place, with only 8oz separating them. Roger Holmes got the thumbs up with 37lb 10oz of smaller stamp carp that fell to maggot to the island at 25 on Bethany's Lake.

Result: 1 Andy Simpson, Quaker Tackle, 69-2-0; 2 Roger Holmes, Langwith, 37-10-0; 3 Keith Bradley, Spenborough, 37-8-0; 4 Kelvin Weatherall, Mosella Selby, 37-2-0; jt5 Phil Eastwood, Spenborough, and Dave Foster, Langwith, both 31-2-0.

Twelve feet of extra water failed to deter the hardy tykes who braved the Ouse at Hunters Lodge and Widdington on Sunday.

Despite the cancellation of the final Yorkshire Winter League meet, 41 anglers ventured onto the perilous flood banks, with the main talking point being why the fish continued to feed under such dire conditions.

Dave Pollitt cast some light on their feeding habits by presenting maggots in the grass at the top of the flood bank. More than 30 roach responded and his final 3lb 6oz saw him score his second win of the weekend.

Hirst Tackle stable-mate Martin Highe took the more usual lobworm and tip option at Hunter's Lodge 224 where his 2.5oz flat lead rig brought him six roach and an eel for a 2lb 14oz total.

Result: 1 Dave Pollitt, Hirst Tackle, 3-6-0; 2 Martin Highe, Hirst Tackle, 2-14-0; 3 Keith Hobson, Maver Barnsley, 1-10-0; 4 Martin Thorpe, Leeds, 1-0-0; 5 Craig Turbitt, Sensas Wibsey, 0-15-8; 6 Mick Shaw, Hirst Tackle, 0-14-0.

Aided by a couple of the lake's better carp, Bob Rymer romped to a comfortable win at the Willows on Saturday as peg 45 again came up trumps. The Sensas Walton man offered double maggot at 14.5m for a carp-dominated haul of 67lb 8oz which included fish to six pounds.

Dave Armitage, of Bob Co, collected another second in this series with 44lb 8oz made up of carp to three pounds topped up with around 20lb of skimmers and ide. He also relied on maggot, using 16m of carbon across to the island opposite peg 50.

Result: 1 Bob Rymer, Sensas Walton, 67-8-0; 2 Dave Armitage, Bob Co, 44-8-0; 3 Graham Broadley, Bob Co, 28-0-0; 4 Denis Geldart, Boston Spa, 25-8-0; 5 Paul Gallagher, The Willows, 24-10-0; 6 Ben Fisk, Angling Times Advanced, 21-0-0.

With the North East's rivers over-topping the flood banks, it was left to the commercial fisheries to stage all the Kamasan qualifiers of a dour weekend.

The Saturday open at the Oaks saw 64 tackle Cedar Lake where Steve Richards (APV) came out tops from peg eight. Offering maggot tight to the island, he found small carp to 2lb for his winning 38lb 5oz.

Former matchman of the year Dean Smith (Garbolino Elton) took second from peg 61 on similar tactics.

Up the road at the Woodlands complex, most lakes were utilised in Sunday's 53-pegger and it was Partridge that flew high on the day. Bill Brierley (Garbolino Elton) led from peg 11 where he found 34lb 3oz of carp to 3lb on pole and maggot at 13 metres.
