BOGUS police officers have been trying to con York residents out of their credit card details.
Three people in the city were called today by fake officers pretending to be investigate a fraud on the victim’s credit card and claiming to have arrested someone.
They gave a fake name, police collar number and incident number and ask them to ring back on 101.
The fraudsters then held the line open so the call went straight back to the suspects who asked for credit card details.
In all three incidents, the victims realised it was a scam and immediately put the phone down.
Now police are warning residents do exactly that and a spokesman stressed that police officers would never ask for credit or bank card details.
A spokeswoman said: "If you receive a call, please put the phone down and never give your bank or credit card details over the phone or in person to anyone who has called you."
