CARECENT had a memorable Christmas, and wishes to thank all who made it possible through donations, many of them unexpected.

There were presents and also money so that Carecent staff could make purchases. The contribution of toiletries and other gifts, such as new socks, were tremendously appreciated. It enabled at least one wrapped gift per person.

This time, we also had gifts of festive food, when traders became aware there was to be a multi-course lunch served on Christmas Day.

The recipients would otherwise have had no food at all or nothing of significance.

Some clients volunteered to make all the arrangements, so did the purchasing and then cooked and presented the meal to their fellows, supported by volunteer staff of Carecent.

The boost to self-esteem and self-confidence was immeasurable, and heartening to observe.

They were putting to use skills kindled in a session at the York Festival Of Food, overseen by the inspirational TV celebrity chef Rosemary Schrager, and stretching abilities beyond their own expectations.

A customer expressed formal words of thanks for the meal, but it was not needed, as the faces showed everything on this emotionally charged occasion. If only donors could have seen the amazement and gratitude on the faces when more than 40 people enjoyed eating in top-quality style.

Although the people and circumstances change, sadly the need to be supportive is still with us.

Thank you all for the continued support.
