CITY of York Ladies resumed in style after the mid-season hockey break, all four teams winning their matches.

In the premier division of the North League, the York senior squad gained much-needed points with a 4-3 win at Blackburn.

Becki Raper gave York an early lead and, after a Blackburn equaliser, a deft touch into the net by Pam Dear put York back in front.

Blackburn again equalised and would have taken the lead but for York goalkeeper Dawn Hopkins' penalty save before Lucy Butcher scored from the spot to give York a 3-2 half-time advantage.

Ruth Graham then gave York a two-goal cushion, tapping in after a successful short corner routine and, although Blackburn scored a third goal towards the end, sterling work from Butcher and Karen Howells, making a rare first-team appearance this season, ensured that York held on for the points.

In division two of the Yorkshire League, City of York Ladies II won 2-1 at home to Dewsbury, Julie Routledge scoring for York after ten minutes. Dewsbury equalised before the break but Vicky Skilton scored the deciding goal for York after good work by Routledge and Helen Shilleto.

City of York Ladies development side eased to a 3-0 division four victory at Huddersfield thanks to goals from Katie Stafford, Alison Stafford and Faye Garland, while City of York Ladies IV won 2-1 at Harrogate V in division five.

Harrogate levelled after Becky Copperthwaite opened the scoring for York but Wendy Harrington's experience held York together and Helen Davis set up Copperthwaite for the second-half winner.
