WE certainly know who to blame if and when York ever acquires congestion charging.

In your article (Are fares fair? January 9) Peter Edwards, First Commercial Director, agrees that congestion charging in York would make the bus company's job easier.

Firstly, it is not his place to suggest or dictate any transport policy in York, he is there to run a bus business, to make money for First, he is not doing it for the sole good of York.

Unless Mr Edwards hails from York, he was not around when the previous Labour council started sticking bollards everywhere and blocking off streets, a perfect example of which are the streets that connected Wigginton Road, near the hospital, and Haxby Road, which of course were bollarded, leading to massive congestion on Wigginton Road.

This has been replicated all over York by the Labour Party and continued by this Liberal Democrat Party, so do not be surprised if this orchestrated mess does not end in cries for a congestion charge.

As a car driver and cyclist and occasional bus user I use whatever mode of transport deems necessary (Try carrying three bags of sand on a bus or bike, I do not think so).

Lastly, I will not be forced into using a bus by Mr Edwards or anybody else with talk of charging to use what we already pay for.
