AN INTERNATIONAL team of runners arrived at York Minster to receive a blessing for their Olympic-style Peace Torch.

The Peace Run is the world’s longest relay run, connecting schools, communities and individuals around the globe and spread the message that peace begins with each individual.

Similar runs which are not connected with any political group or raising funds are taking place on the other four continents visiting more than 100 countries in total.

On their visit to York, the team met the Reverend-Canon Chancellor on their way through the north of England, having visited schools along the route.

In previous years the Peace Run team has also been welcomed at Salisbury Cathedral and Canterbury Cathedral, with the torch receiving blessings from prominent dignitaries including religious and political leaders, and support from noted humanitarians, actors, athletes, musicians and artists.
