PEOPLE are being helped to claim the financial support they are entitled to by City of York Council as part of a month-long campaign.

A series of events in the Acomb area of the city will focus on the thousands of people who miss out on millions of pounds of benefits, credits or discounts which they have a right to but are not receiving.

The council's benefits advisors will hold a series of advice sessions.

The first one will be at Acomb library on Wednesday, between 10am and noon.

Another session will be held at Foxwood Community Centre, between 2pm and 4pm on the same day.

Further sessions will be held on Friday, with one for the over 50s at the Oasis Caf, at the Gateway Church in Front Street, between 10am and noon, and another at Sanderson Court, in Chapelfields, between 2pm and 4pm.

Benefits advisers will also be at local supermarkets throughout the week to offer support and advice.

Mike Coda, the council's welfare advice and appeals manager, said: "We have identified that as many as two out of every five York residents are not getting the financial support which they are entitled to.

"They are missing out and we want to help them get the support they deserve."

Anyone who thinks they could be missing out on financial support should phone 01904 551111 for more information.

Benefits advisors are also happy to attend community or voluntary groups to offer advice. Phone the team on the same number.
