FOOTBALLERS from Stamford Bridge Junior School are counting down to the national finals of the Danone Nations Cup.

The team will travel to Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground on Saturday, May 24 to compete in the climax of the world’s biggest football tournament for ten to 12-year-olds.

Stamford Bridge progressed from the county knockout rounds of the tournament and triumphed at the regional finals held at Nottingham University in March.

Charlotte Broos, of Danone, said: “The facilities at Bodymoor Heath are world class and offer the team from Stamford Bridge Junior School a fantastic opportunity to compete at a Premier League club's training ground."

Former Tottenham, Liverpool and England centre-back John Scales, an ambassador of the tournament, said: “I would like to wish Stamford Bridge Junior School the best of luck in the national final.

"They played extremely well in the regional finals and I’m sure the Premier League surroundings will help them play even better.”
