I AM writing regarding the recent article reporting the biometric system of fingerprinting children in some York schools.
Leaving aside the very real issue of invasion of privacy, when my son was a pupil almost five years ago we used to regularly receive envelopes asking for monetary contributions to the school.
Fair enough, we can all appreciate that schools do need extra funding from time to time.
If I thought, however, that my hard-earned cash was going to pay for such an unnecessary purpose as this, I would be round to the school with some A4 paper and my laminator to make library cards at a fraction of the cost of this technology.
Schools cannot be as seriously hard-up as they claim if they think that this represents a good way to spend money.
Perhaps they should purchase a few more books for the libraries that they are so keen to protect?
Come on, York parents, find out what your sponsor money is funding!
