SOME Labour councillors preach to residents that that they should abandon their cars and use buses.
For the next two weeks, there will be a closure of a section of Huntington Road, leaving more than 1,000 households in south Huntington abandoned by the council as they will have no access to a bus service.
The closure is required for works for the Sessions development, but it seems that no one from the council thought to tell the people of south Huntington.
Those residents who go to work by bus, and disabled and elderly people, will have no service.
Not everyone has an alternative and not everyone can get on a bike.
Belatedly on Friday, after pressure from Huntington councillors, notices were put on bus stops in south Huntington by First. We suspect nothing would have happened if we hadn’t pressed for it.
However, there were no notices on bus stops in north Huntington, so residents wanting to go to stops such as those at Brockfield or Birch Park would be unaware that buses are being diverted away from there.
We have urged the council to make alternative arrangements for residents, but this has fallen on deaf ears.
