A COMMUNITY group set up to create a new burial ground near Drax has got a second grant to add the final touches to the new resting place.

The Rusholme Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund has given a total £17,000 to the Drax and Newland Joint Burial Board, which was set up by villagers fromDrax, Newland, Long Drax and Camblesforth, once Drax Church graveyard reached capacity.

It was given aitsfirst £5,000 grant through the Two Ridings Community Foundation, which administers the wind farm's grant scheme, for fencing, hedging, trees and screening in order to create a tranquil area for parishioners to remember their loved ones.

Now a second grant of £12,076 has been approved to add a wildlife pond and access to the site.

Jackie McCafferty, Programmes Manager at the Two Ridings Community Foundation, said: “This is an excellent example of cross-parish community support, which will save local people time and resources, encourage social interaction and improve community cohesion.

"We are delighted to fund these final touches to the burial ground to make it a pleasant and accessible place for reflection.”
