EVERYONE seems to be having a go at the York NHS, but I think it is superb.

In July 2006, I was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive small cell incurable cancer. Within five days, I saw a chest specialist, had a CT scan and x-rays and a bronchoscopy. Two weeks later, I started a course of chemotherapy, which finished in November. I saw my specialist on December 20 and was told the cancer had been checked but would grow again. Treatment would be suspended and a good check would be kept on me.

I had a lovely Christmas with my family and made the new year, but two days later the cancer started to grow again.

I immediately went back to the hospital (Tuesday, January 2) and was seen without an appointment. More X-rays and I have had another pre-assessment. I begin another course of chemotherapy and have a CT scan on January 10.

Without the dedication and super facilities of the oncology department, staff, doctors, receptionists, and volunteers, I wouldn't be here now. They have given me more time with my family, dogs, garden and friends, and I know they will go on helping me for as long as possible.

Thank you York Cancer Care Centre, you are the best. I'm glad to be here to say these words.
