A YORK primary school based within a historic landmark building in the city has secured permission to install new windows.
Poppleton Road Primary School’s application to replace windows at the site’s upper hall had to go before the Department for Communities and Local Government because of the building’s listed status, but approval has now been granted for the proposed changes.
The school was built in the early 20th century by local Edwardian architect WH Brierley, with its application saying the new windows were needed to “secure the long-term future of the building for the purpose for which it was built”.
City of York Council planners said the scheme would not harm the character and integrity of the building.
