WIGGINTON Grasshoppers will play Dringhouses in the final of the York FA Under-19s Cup after both teams came through penalty shootouts in their semi-finals.

Wigginton saw off Rawcliffe 4-3 on spot-kicks after drawing 1-1 in normal time, while Dringhouses beat Haxby Town 5-4 after they also drew 1-1.

Both of the York FA U13s Junior Minor Cup semi-finals were also decided on penalties.

Fulford drew 1-1 with York RI before winning 4-3 on spot-kicks and Pocklington Town also triumphed 4-3 after yet another 1-1 in normal time.

The York FA U15s Intermediate (Senior) Minor Cup semi-finals were decided in regular time, with Woodthorpe Wanderers and Rawcliffe Tigers advancing through to the final.

Tom McCrory was the hero for Woodthorpe, as his first half tap-in was enough to give his side a 1-0 win over Rufforth United.

The other game was a much closer affair, as Rawcliffe overcame Poppleton Tigers 3-2 in an edgy encounter.

Rawcliffe went 3-1 up with goals from Jamie Butt, Jarrad Benson and George Brown, but a late Poppleton goal set up a frantic finish which saw the away side clinging on to claim their place in the final.

The York FA U11s Junior Cup semifinal between Tadcaster Magnets Reds and Rufforth United saw nine goals hit the back of the net after some poor defending – and excellent attacking.

Will Jarvis was the star man as he scored four goals in Rufforth’s 6-3 win, as well as setting up Ben Heath and Mackenzie Halloway for the other two.

Although the away side were always in control after being 2-1 up at halftime, the decision to change to three players at the back back-fired and saw Tadcaster pull level.

However, they were no match for Jarvis and ’keeper Nathan Storr, who made a string of crucial saves.

The other semi-final saw a more comfortable 2-0 win for Rawcliffe Tigers over Rufforth Gliders.

Rawcliffe took the lead in the second minute when a Jack Marshall cross floated into the far corner and he then added another 20 minutes later with a well struck effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The game could have seen more than the two goals as both sides had chances but the ’keepers – Joseph Hodge of Rawcliffe and Chris Wood of Rufforth – ensured that the score remained at 2-0.
