I AM a bit baffled why planning committee councillors believe developers are trying to leapfrog York’s local plan by getting approval for new homes on greenfield land before this policy is in place (The Press, February 25).
This implies, wrongly, that the local plan will somehow come to the rescue of our threatened greenbelt. In fact, the opposite is the case.
Aside from a few precious green wedges (mostly along our rivers), the local plan (if approved by the Government) will become a charter for massive and unsustainable greenfield development around York.
