ON behalf of the management and staff of Yorkshire Air Museum, I would like to extend thanks to members of Full Sutton Flying Club for their support of our Santa's Plane events before Christmas.

I am sure this sentiment is shared by the record number of children, parents and grandparents who joined in the excitement of Santa's airborne arrival. Thanks to Cass Smith, Simon Pocklington, Tony Berryman and Adam Berrington, and to Mike Usherwood for his assistance, that helps make the event run so smoothly.

Although the fog did affect one flight, I would like to note the efforts made to get airborne, with the final decision being made literally at the 11th hour.

With visibility at Full Sutton less than a third of the runway, it was understandable that it did not take place, but even this could not dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd.

On every other day, the flypast arrived bang on time at Elvington Airfield for Santa to be transferred to the museum aboard the Pathfinder airport fire engine operated by the museum's volunteer fire service. Thanks also to Elvington Parks for allowing use of the airfield for this.

With the museum's offer of a donation to Full Sutton Flying Club to cover fuel expenses being politely refused, it is this co-operation and enthusiasm that embodies the "season of goodwill".

It was heartwarming to receive so many positive comments - one family remarked it was their seventh year of attending.
