IT'S double celebration for a mother and daughter duo from Selby.

Not only did Sallie Lockwood and her daughter Emma Cazzalini both celebrate their birthdays on New Year's Day, but the pair have also each been honoured by the Queen.

As reported in The Press on Saturday, well-known charity fundraiser Sallie, received an MBE for services to the community in Carlton in the Queen's New Year's Honours.

But when Mrs Lockwood is presented with the MBE later this year it will be the second time a member of her family has received an honour from the Queen.

Her diplomat daughter, Emma, who works for the Foreign Office in Brussels, was presented with the Member Of The Victorian Order by the Queen during a recent visit to Rome.

Mrs Cazzalini, a former Selby High School pupil, has worked for the diplomatic service since 1996 and organised the Queen's visit to the Italian capital. The award was a personal honour from the Queen.

After receiving the award she said: "I was quite surprised when I received the letter saying I had been nominated for the award and it was difficult to keep it a secret until the day."

Among a long list of local events and fundraising activities, Emma's mum, Sallie has helped raise thousands of pounds for the Carlton branch of Action Research and Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Her award cited her services to the community in Carlton where she has organised the Tuesday Club for the village senior citizens for 35 years and has been involved in meals on wheels. Mrs Lockwood has also raised funds for Macmillan Nurses.

She has strengthened links between Selby and its twin town of Carentan, in Normandy, as chairman of Selby's twinning committee.
