Wrapping: Classy white cover with a pair of authentic (albeit Freudian) medieval instruments in the shape of a heart. Small headshots of the Baebes on the back.
Style: Choral, orchestral, Mediaeval.
Content: A collection of carols and hymns, sung by attractive women in Medieval dress, accompanied by appropriately Medieval instruments. Seventeen in total, ranging from I Saw Three Ships, to Gaudete, In The Bleak Midwinter and Ding Dong Merrily On High.
Tis the reason to be jolly: Difficult to dislike and despite the antique instruments and styles the songs are standards, meaning they're still easily approachable. Feels like it should be heard while trudging through a misty field or sitting in respectful silence in a cathedral.
Scrooge moan: Gaudete and Ding Dong Merrily On High have both featured in Steve Coogan projects. Not a big problem, but hard not to cringe thinking of Alan Partridge and Mick Hucknall's versions.
White Christmas? Nope. Even Bing Crosby wasn’t around when most of these were written.
Blue Christmas? Not really - feels like a classical, relaxed Christmas, rather than hearing a seventies cheesy hit or forgettable modern pop track for the umpteenth time.
Stocking or shocking? A great present for people to snooze to after eating too much. Good for families too, less so for teens.
