TRADERS at this year’s St Nicholas Fayre in York were not only here to sell their wares – they were judged on their costumes and the appearance of their stalls.

Judge Coun Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, visited each stall in the market and soaked up the seasonal atmosphere.

She said: “The St Nicholas Fayre is an annual favourite with residents and visitors and this competition is our way of thanking those traders who go that extra mile to give the fair its festive feel and help keep York firmly on the map of the best places to be at this time of year.”

She awarded certificates to traders who had entered into the spirit of the event, dressing in Victorian costume, decorating their stalls and helping bring as festive a feel as possible to the market.
