FATHER Christmas will be making an appearance in York streets from next week as members of the Rotary Club set out to tour the city on their festive float.

The annual events are sponsored by York-based insurance brokers D E Ford, whose support helped build the float.

It launches on Thursday in Copmanthorpe and will tour the streets of Bishopthorpe, Copmanthorpe, Woodthorpe, Dringhouses and parts of Acomb until Friday, December 20.

Rotarians from the York Ainsty group will be making door-to-door collections alongside the float, raising money for causes at home and abroad. The float is the club’s main fundraising opportunity during the year.

On Saturday, December 21, and Monday, December 23, the members will also be packing bags in Sainsbury’s, at Foss Bank, to raise more money.

This year, the Scouts and Cubs will be helping out on the collections in Copmanthorpe for the first time, and the funds raised will be shared between the organisations.
