TWIN victories made Rufforth the club of the round in the York FA Under-11s Junior Cup.

Rufforth Gliders reached the semi-finals of the F1 Racing- sponsored competition with a 3-0 win at York RI Cosmos, while Rufforth United squeezed through to the last four on penalties against York Cubs.

The Gliders came out on top in their round three tie on a muddy New Lane pitch.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half with a goal from Toby Dennis-Jones.

They made it 2-0 shortly afterwards when a ball in from a corner found Kieran Watson free in the penalty area and he calmly slotted it into the net.

The second half was fairly even but Rufforth made it 3-0 midway through after a rare passing move was finished off by the prolific Tom Goodall.

Rufforth United were slow out of the blocks at home to York Cubs, who took the lead with a fine early goal.

United struggled throughout the first period and went another goal behind, but their defensive line of Rosco Dawson, Harrison Baily and Jacob Caringella remained strong, anchored by goalkeeper Nathan Storr.

Oliver Bartlett kept the ever- dangerous York Cubs player Josh Hall at bay and a solid performance by Elliot Oliver in midfield encouraged Rufforth on to attack.

Mackenzie Holloway and Will Jarvis troubled the Cubs’ defence and Jarvis eventually clawed a goal back from close range.

In the last minute, a surging run and fine delivery from the left by Tom Eaton saw Jarvis equalise to send the tie into a penalty shoot-out.

Rufforth won 4-3 on spot-kicks, with the winning penalty converted by goalkeeper Storr.

Meanwhile, Ely Kent bagged a hat-trick and Josh Hussain added two goals as Rawcliffe came out 5-0 winners in their battle of the Tigers with Poppleton.

The last four line-up is completed by Tadcaster Magnets Reds, who were 3-1 winners at home to Huntington.
