RUFFORTH United booked their place in the semi-finals of the York FA Under-15s Intermediate (Senior) Minor Cup with a 4-2 victory at Poppleton Panthers.

The home side’s goalscorers were Alex Scadding and Matty Beilby, while Ollie Palmer had a penalty saved.

The star of the show for the Panthers was goalkeeper James Williams.

Elsewere in the competition, Rawcliffe Tigers had to fight all the way before progressing to the semi-finals against a resolute Easingwold.

Rawcliffe dominated the early skirmishes and soon raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Jack Daniel (2) and Alex Tattersall.

Easingwold pulled goals back either side of half-time to prompt a nervous finish, but Rawcliffe held out.

Two first-half strikes for Wilberfoss Mavericks (an own goal and Dan Gidney) ensured the score was level at half-time and full-time against Rawcliffe before Mavericks won a penalty shoot-out 4-3 in the York FA U14s Intermediate (Junior) Minor Cup.

York Cubs put 13 past Poppleton with Milo Shore and Clarke Keenan each scoring four, while Lucas Hindle (3), Adam Hendry and Daniel Zimer also netted.

In the York FA Acaster Steel (U12s) Junior Cup, hosts Poppleton Tigers went 1-0 up against Tadcaster Magnets Blues when Luke Morris broke away to fire home.

Tadcaster were soon back on level terms when Matthew Butcher forced the ball in from a corner but Poppleton’s Sam Palmer struck a 20-yard free-kick to make the score 2-1 at half-time.

Tadcaster levelled with ten miutes to go through a James Mann 15-yard volley but Robert Guilfoyle forced home the ball from a tight angle to send Poppleton into the semi-finals.

Stamford Bridge ousted Wigginton Grasshoppers 5-1.

By half-time Bridge were 3-0 up with a brace of goals from top scorer James Patrick and a Dan Durkin effort.

The lead was increased after the break through Durkin and an own goal before a late reply.

Pocklington went nap to oust Woodthorpe 5-1.

After losing Harry Cooper early on to a knock, Pocklington weathered Woodthorpe pressure to stamp their authority on the tie.

Josh Broadbent’s shot was saved well by the Woodthorpe ’keeper, but Broadbent followed up well to net the rebound.

Soon after, a clever ball to Jack Creaser was met by a crisp shot into the bottom corner in the 20th minute.

After the break Kai Birch’s clever chip was met well by Broadbent who bagged his second goal.

Will Jackson teed up Tom Snowball for the fourth and then Will Snook threaded through a clever ball pass for Kai Birch to beat the advancing ’keeper.

Woodthorpe grabbed a late reward with a sharp finish just before the final whistle.
