A CAMPAIGN for more blood donors has been launched in York.

The “Do It For Us” campaign, by the NHS Blood and Transplant and Teenage Cancer Trust, encourages people to think about the benefits of blood donation to young cancer patients The campaign, launched at the University of York, aims to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation and blood usage for young people undergoing cancer treatment.

NHS Blood and Transplant staff, blood donation ambassadors from the university, a young cancer patient from Hull and a Teenage Cancer Trust representative shared stories, answered questions and encouraged students and staff to register as blood donors at the event.

Donna Batty, of NHS Blood and Transplant, said:

“We had a great response from the students. We hope everyone who signed up will find time to donate in the run up to Christmas to help keep blood stocks healthy over the festive period. We’re always looking for new donors to sign up to give blood in the area – so if you want to save lives, please register at one of our Do It For Us recruitment events.
