THE pedestrian killed in a collision with a car on the A64 last week has been named as 46-year-old Martine Bongani.
An inquest into the death of Ms Bongani, of Burley Lodge Terrace, Leeds, was opened and adjourned today, by coroner Rob Turnbull. It heard she had been for a job interview at the Travelodge at Bilborough on Monday, November 11.
The inquest heard Ms Bongani was believed to have tried to flag down a bus to Leeds on the Westbound carriageway of the A64 at about 7.30pm. When the bus failed to stop, she crossed back over the Eastbound carriageway, and was struck by a BMW and later pronounced dead.
Police have urged anyone who saw the collision or was in the area prior to the incident to phone 101. A full inquest will be carried out at a later date.
