IN-FORM Acomb men’s I were 4-2 winners at basement side Mirfield I in division four north of the Yorkshire Hockey League.
The win moved the Tangerines into sixth in the table, although they would be third but for a four-point deduction.
The visitors took the lead with a neat deflection by Paul Wright in the fifth minute. Paul Kellett received a yellow card, and the Tangerines missed several half chances before Mirfield levelled shortly before the interval.
Craig Brown, the Acomb man of the match, pulled off a string of fine saves before Matt Dickenson restored the lead eight minutes into the second half.
Harry Ellis provided breathing space with a well placed strike to double the lead with only seven minutes remaining.
A disputed goal by the hosts made for a nervy finale, but skipper Baz Whitfield’s strike from a penalty corner routine restored a two-goal cushion.
Acomb men’s II crashed to a 4-0 defeat at home to City of York VII in division five north.
Ryan Smith and Dave Timmins gave stout performances in midfield and skipper Dave Morris was solid in defence.
