MEMBERS of a Selby football team, which folded two years ago, are hoping to raise £2,000 for charity at their reunion match this weekend.

Kartiers FC won the York & District Football League Third Division in the 1993/94 season, and continued at Selby Town’s ground until the club folded in 2011.

On Sunday, the original team will be back together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the club’s victory in the York & District Saturday Afternoon League Division Three championship.

Players from the club’s championship winning season will take on an Allstars XI, a team selected from former Kartiers players and celebrity guests. Former manager Ian Jennings said it was good to see so many former teammates taking part.

Mr Jennings, who managed the club for 20 years until 2010, said: “More than thirty former players have been contacted and all but two of them have kindly offered to play some part of the game which is tremendous.

“Another couple of players unfortunately cant make it due to prior comitments but to have so many players keen to put on the Kartiers shirt once again just shows how important the club was to so many people.

“Some players now live out of the Selby area, but are coming through to play and help raise money for our chosen charities.”

The match kicks off at 11am at Selby Town’s ground, and is free to the public, with donations all going to the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer and The Meningitis Trust.

A raffle will also be held for a signed, framed photo of Paul Gascoigne, and tickets are available from Richard Singh on 07540979607, or at The Malt Shovel in Ousegate.

So far, the players, families, friends and colleages have raised more than £1,500, and they hope to round it up to £2,000 on the day.
