CITY Of York Hockey Club's first team came close to grabbing a North Hockey League point at Chester.

York had broken their duck the week before with victory against Tynemouth, but were unable to repeat the feat against Chester.

The home side led after ten minutes with a short corner goal but York levelled immediately, Alex Cockram setting up Kyle Hogg to convert at the far post.

Either side could have won but Chester took maximum points with a goal midway through the second half.

With Tom Stopper outstanding at right-back and Cockram orchestrating a string of attacking moves, York pushed hard for the equaliser in the final quarter but didn't get the goal their efforts deserved.

City of York II failed to make the most of their domination as they slipped to a 3-1 home defeat against Slazengers I in the NHL division two east.

They led at the interval with a Chris Dutton goal but Slazengers made the most of their limited opportunities - one stemming from a York defensive error - to overturn the lead in the second half.

Ed Shouksmith scored the City of York III goal in their 5-1 Yorkshire League division one defeat at Gainsborough Roses I. Matt Tipper was the star man for York.

City of York IV restored some pride with a 4-3 home win against Rotherham III in division three, Andy Wilson snatching a late winner from a tight angle near the end.

Mark Dransfield and Greg Sykes had put York 2-0 ahead before the South Yorkshire side pulled a goal back.

Sykes restored York's two-goal cushion but battling Rotherham hit back to make it 3-3 before Wilson's late intervention.

The performances of Rob Wise and Tony Neeve were the highlights of City of York V's 4-0 defeat at LA Carnegie IV in division four.

Poor defensive work saw City of York VI crash 6-3 at home to LA Carnegie V in division five after leading 2-0 at half-time with goals from Will Ellis and Tom Feasby. Kevin Wilson got the other York goal.

Goals from Nick Kay (2), Steve Archer and Andy Potts gave City of York VII a 4-2 win at Sheffield University Bankers IX in division eight.
