I HAVE been aware of the revamping of King’s Square for a while and I did fill in a questionnaire airing my views.
However, I was unaware until a few days ago that the council planned to remove the original cobbled stone roadway from King’s Square to Shambles, widening it and replacing it with new stones.
I was shocked by this as surely this is the character of the area. Once these stones are removed, that is another part of our history lost. What will happen to them and is it really necessary to replace them?
On talking to friends and family about this over the past few days, nobody was aware of this. This makes me think the plans were not clear, possibly because the council knew this would upset many people.
These do not seem to be the actions of a council listening to its residents.
