I READ the article (The Press, July 12) about Sir Ron Cook and Dave Merritt’s ideas for reinvigorating York. Lights, railings, seats, cyclists, bollards, all mentioned, but not a word about the cost.
Am I correct in assuming the ratepayer will pay for all this ornamentation?
They say they want to reduce the number of bollards and the amount of railings; but aren’t they the ones responsible for the big increase in the number of bollards and the extra railings on the city walls?
They say they want cycle racks outside pedestrian areas, does this mean that someone who works at M&S in Parliament Street and parks his cycle there will now have to park it in Clarence Street?
They say they want the Broxap litter bin to be the approved bin throughout the city; but are these people responsible for removing £200,000 worth of bins?
How much will each such bin cost? How much did the railings cost? How much has each seat cost? How much will the new street lighting cost? How much will the new traffic lights cost? How much will digging up Stonegate cost?
