A RARE type of flightless beetle is in for a boost after 100 plants which make up its habitat were planted on the banks of the River Ouse.
A 45km stretch of the Ouse’s banks is the only place the tansy beetle exists in the UK, and Yorkshire Water has donated tansy plants as part of its £16 million Acomb Landing project to replace a Victorian water treatment plant.
The company’s Matt Thompson said: “With big schemes we often try to leave a legacy which means the environment is better than when our scheme started.”
