VAMPIRES, ghouls and ghosts from Knavesmire Primary School donned hand-made costumes and covered themselves in scary face paint as they performed the Rocky Monster show to a sell-out crowd.

The junior version of the Rocky Horror Show involved 120 pupils who performed to an audience of 300 at Millthorpe School, in Nunthorpe Avenue, on Monday night.

Jane Woolgar, who directed and choreographed the musical, said: “It was just absolutely fantastic.

“It was a show with a lot of scope for scenery and costumes and it was tremendously fun.

“The kids loved it and they all performed fantastically on the night,” she said.

Everyone from parents to the local vicar got involved as mums took on the task of painting 120 faces before the stage curtain was lifted.

The local vicar and his wife operated the lighting and Co-operative funeral care donated £100 which enabled the school to hire two coffins to complete their spooky scenery.

Mrs Woolgar said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to them.

“Everybody got involved and we could not have done it without them.

“Millthorpe let us use their stage as well, which was so generous.”

Pupils in Year 6 played the leading roles while children in Years 3 and 4 encouraged the audience to get on their feet as they performed iconic dances such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
